Poetic setting, breathtaking views...

The River Lodge living room Imagine being able to step into a Thomas Cole painting and see the Hudson River Valley as its first inhabitants must have. With its 100 acres of forest crisscrossed by streams and hiking trails and its near mile of riverfront property, Shakespeare on the Hudson allows its guests the opportunity to turn back the hands of time while still enjoying the comforts of the modern day.

This remarkable property is the ideal setting for weddings, corporate retreats and cultural events. Located in Catskill, NY on the shores of the Hudson River, SOTH boasts some of the most unique and breathtakingly beautiful property in the Hudson Valley. The two guest houses that comprise the lodging available on site all feature riverfront views that you will find nowhere else, unspoiled by trains, buildings or power lines. At night, the lights from the city of Hudson just across the river are a reminder that there are people out there, somewhere, but our guests delight in their own privacy.

The houses contain a total of 26 bedrooms and can be booked together or individually. Additional lodging is provided at the Stewart House at THE ATHENS HOTEL located less than ten minutes away in the town of Athens.

THE GUEST HOUSES

The interior of each house is chic yet casual with a 19th century Adirondack hunter's cabin feel. Decorated with wood furniture, antler mounts and Native American patterned rugs, each house is stylish yet comfortable and encourages you to throw off your shoes and get cozy.

ON-SITE AMENITIES + ACTIVITIES

We believe that the grounds themselves are the most impressive part of Shakespeare on the Hudson. The near 100 acres of land that make up SOTH are home to almost every variety of tree native to this area of New York State. Hundreds of species of birds, including herons, bald eagles, hawks and owls can be seen on the property. Deer and red fox abound, creating a magical natural world right outside your doorstep just begging to be explored.

The river itself boasts more than 200 species of fish, most notably shad, Atlantic sturgeon, and striped bass, which come swarming up the river from the open ocean in mid-spring. Kayaking, fishing and boating are encouraged as this is one of only a handful of locations along either side of the Hudson that does not require you to cross over train tracks or under huge power lines to access the water.

We are continually adding to the list of amenities available at SOTH so that we can provide our guests with the most memorable experience possible. We will be including the following to SOTH over the coming year:

There is much to do on the grounds of Shakespeare on the Hudson. Below are just some of the options:
